Watch the New Mid-Engine C8 Corvette Hit Its 194-MPH Top Speed

A leaked video from an internal presentation provides proof of Chevy's impressive top speed claim.

In August, Chevrolet revealed the base, mid-engine C8 Corvette will have a top speed of 194 mph. Since it didn't provide any proof to back up that claim, we've had to take the company's word for it—until now.

A video has surfaced online from what looks to be an internal presentation showing the C8's factory top speed test. The clip, shot from inside the cabin, shows the car achieving its 194-mph top speed at a high-speed testing facility in Papenburg, Germany, according to the video's narrator.

Sadly, we don't get to see the full run—the video begins with the car already going 186 mph. Still, the speed is impressive, especially considering that the car was weighed down with two occupants and who knows how many pounds in testing equipment.

As Chevrolet has pointed out, if you want to own a C8 that can do 194 mph, you shouldn't option the Z51 performance pack, as it includes aero equipment that increases drag at high speeds. But you do get Michelin summer tires, a rear spoiler that GM says helps make 400 pounds of downforce, added cooling hardware, a better exhaust, and an electronic limited-slip differential, all for just $5000. It's the one I'd rather have, top speed be damned.
