The TVR Cerbera's Strange V-8 Makes a Lovely Noise

The flat-plane 4.5-liter 75-degree V-8 under the hood of TVR's V-8 sports car is an unusual gem.

The Cerbera is one of TVR's most interesting cars, mainly thanks to its engine. It was an in-house unit developed by the company that used a flat-plane crankshaft and a 75-degree layout—unheard of for a road-going V-8 engine.

The bespoke design means it has a unique sound you won't hear in any other car. Here's a later 4.5-liter version getting pushed to the limit at a drag racing event in Europe.
