Audi Needed to Disassemble the Back Half of an R8 to Make This Picture

That's right. These are all real R8 parts.

The R8 has been around for over 10 years now, so to celebrate, Audi USA commissioned artist Fabian Oefner to create a super-cool "disintegration" image of the car. You wouldn't believe the amount of work it took.

In order to create this exploded car-like effect you see above, Oefner had a group of Audi technicians disassemble an entire R8 V10 Plus from the firewall back. The engine, transaxle, and all of the associated electrical and cooling systems were taken apart. He then photographed each individual piece, and photoshopped the entire collection together to create the final image.

Audi put together a time lapse video to show us how the image came together, and it's certainly worth the watch.

This isn't the first time Oefner's done something like this. He's done several "disintegration" pieces in the past, including one with a Lamborghini Miura, and a model Porsche 956 Le Mans race car.

If you're particularly fond of this piece of art, you're in luck: Audi is selling a 12.75-inch by 30-inch print on its Collection website for $24.95.
